All You Need to Know About SAT
What is SAT?
SAT or the Scholastic Assessment Test is a generalized test that is used to assess the abilities of students. The importance of this test can be recognized from the fact that a good SAT score is the only thing standing between you and the university of your dreams. SAT is taken by high school students for admission in universities or colleges. This test score can be used as a basis for admission in both Pakistani and International universities. The test is conducted seven times a year in the United States and six times a year internationally. In Pakistan it is conducted in the month of March to December.
SAT Exam Pattern
There are a total of 154 questions and the candidate can attain a score in the range of 400-1600. The greater score can result in more scholarship opportunities. The SAT is divided into three sections for the Pakistani students. It consists of a reading portion, writing portion and a math portion. It is further divided into two categories, SAT 1 and SAT 2. The main difference between these distinctions is the basic course required for admission in universities in Pakistan and the SAT 2 is more focused on a particular subject the student wants to study in the future.
University Entrance Test
For Pakistani universities, taking the SATs means that the candidate can apply for admission based on their SAT score and would not have to take the university entrance test for that specific university that recognizes the SAT. In Pakistan, LUMS, NUST PIEAS and IBA are among the universities that accept admission on the basis of SAT score. Many of the degrees do not require the candidate to take a specific subject, details on these can be found on the official websites of the university the candidate is interested in applying to.
SAT Score
These scores were once considered to be the only unbiased indicator for the admission of students in international universities. Slowly a shift is seen in the requirement for SAT. With many universities still requiring SAt scores for admission, others have shifted away from this necessity. In the United States more than thousand colleges no longer require SAT scores. New York University, Hampshire College, Cornell college and the George Washington University do not require the SAT score for admission. University of Florida and the University of Georgia are among those which require a SAT score for admission.
SAT Registration 2024
For candidates interested in taking the SATs, registration can be made by visiting the college board website and the registration closes one month before the announced test date. The identity proof is also necessary for taking the SAT test in Pakistan and the identity proof for Pakistani students is the official passport issued by the government of Pakistan.
