Undergraduate scholarships for Gilgit-Baltistan students have been issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The scholarship would allow students from the region to study at top Pakistani colleges and educational institutes, according to a statement released by the body.
“Applications are welcomed from excellent candidates from Gilgit-Baltistan who wish to pursue undergraduate studies (four/five years BS programs) at HEC-recognized public sector universities/degree-awarding institutions (DAIs),” according to the announcement.
The scheme, titled “Undergraduate Scholarship Programme for Students of Gilgit-Baltistan in Top Universities/Institutions (Batch-I),” is open to students from all fields of study and disciplines for the academic year 2021-2022.
Eligibility criteria
According to the HEC’s requirements, students must meet certain criteria in order to be considered for the opportunity, which is highly competitive.
- Students must have a G-B domicile/local certificate in order to participate.
- At the time of application, applicants must have finished their matric or intermediate degrees, with preference given to those who have completed their studies in G-B.
- Those who are currently receiving any other scholarships are ineligible to apply.
- The scholarship will allow students to enroll in any public sector university or higher educational institution in Pakistan; however, any costs above those listed in PC-I will be the responsibility of the students.
- At the time of application, students must be under the age of 23.
- For admission to BS programs, students must meet HEC and university requirements.
- Candidates will be short-listed based on their performance in the HEC’s education assessment council’s Aptitude Test and their academic credentials.
- The aptitude test must be passed with a score of at least 50%.
- Students who have completed at least one year of a BS degree at a public university or institution are eligible to apply.
- The scholarship will be given regardless of the candidate’s gender, caste, race, or religion.
What will the scholarship cover?
According to the announcement, the scholarship will cover the following:
- Tuition, hostel fees, and other education-related expenses up to Rs240,000 per year are allowed.
- A monthly payout of Rs15,000
- A yearly allowance of Rs30,000 for books and travel.
